Reorder Posts keeps one menu order per post. The moment the order depends on which category you are standing in, or you want the categories themselves in a custom sequence, you are outside this plugin. I split those into companions so this one stays predictable. They can add a tab on the reorder screen when they are active.
Reorder by Term
Reorder by Term orders posts, pages, or a custom post type inside a term. News can have one sequence and Notes another, for the same posts. Use it when a category archive should follow a hand-built order. Reorder Posts cannot store that, because it only has one number on the post.
Reorder Terms
Reorder Terms orders the terms: categories, tags, and other public taxonomies. The category list itself, not the posts inside it.
What I would not install a plugin for
- A single post type in one order, on one page. That is Custom Order or a query. Show the saved order on the front end
- Nested pages. That is already Reorder pages
- Hiding the sample query, or turning a type on. That is Settings
Front-end dragging, and ordering drafts, are not in these companions either. Both are outside the set.
