Each language gets its own pass on the reorder screen. The public page stays sensible if the query only shows the language the visitor is reading.
Reorder the language you are editing
- Switch the admin language to the one you want to order. Both Polylang and WPML filter the list you are looking at
- Open Reorder for that post type
- Drag that language’s published posts
- Switch language and do it again
A new translation can start with a copy of the source post’s menu order, if your language plugin copies the row when it creates the translation. After that, the two numbers are independent. Dragging one side leaves the other where it was.
The front end has to stay in one language
Menu order is just a number. English item 2 and French item 2 are not a pair. A query that mixes languages will interleave them by that number, which is rarely what you want. Let the language plugin limit the query to the current language, then sort that set by menu order. The sort itself is on Show the saved order on the front end. The language filter belongs to Polylang or WPML, not to Reorder Posts.
The plugin’s own admin strings are translated. That changes labels like Reorder and Enabled. It does not keep your content in the same order across languages.
There is no setting here to lock the languages together. If you need them to match, drag each language into the same sequence, or copy menu order in whatever tool your translation plugin already gives you for copying post fields.
