# Companion plugins

Reorder Posts keeps one menu order per post. The moment the order depends on which category you are standing in, or you want the categories themselves in a custom sequence, you are outside this plugin. I split those into companions so this one stays predictable. They can add a tab on the reorder screen when they are active.

## Reorder by Term

[Reorder by Term](https://wordpress.org/plugins/reorder-by-term/) orders posts, pages, or a custom post type inside a term. News can have one sequence and Notes another, for the same posts. Use it when a category archive should follow a hand-built order. Reorder Posts cannot store that, because it only has one number on the post.

## Reorder Terms

[Reorder Terms](https://wordpress.org/plugins/reorder-terms/) orders the terms: categories, tags, and other public taxonomies. The category list itself, not the posts inside it.

## What I would not install a plugin for

- A single post type in one order, on one page. That is Custom Order or a query. [Show the saved order on the front end](https://rootsandfruit.com/docs/reorder-posts/show-the-saved-order-on-the-front-end/)
- Nested pages. That is already [Reorder pages](https://rootsandfruit.com/docs/reorder-posts/reorder-pages/)
- Hiding the sample query, or turning a type on. That is [Settings](https://rootsandfruit.com/docs/reorder-posts/settings/)

Front-end dragging, and ordering drafts, are not in these companions either. Both are outside the set.
